CONTORIS | Dinnerware
Contoris is a dinnerware and flatware collection developed for Browne & Co. and intended for high-volume casual dining environments.
A subtle twisting gesture unifies the collection. In the ceramic pieces, soft-square profiles shift gently from base to rim. The same movement carries into the flatware, where each handle transitions gradually into the working end. This creates a consistent family of objects without relying on decorative detailing.
The project began with research into how emerging restaurant trends move from smaller, chef-led establishments into established chains. The goal was to introduce a more contemporary visual language while retaining the familiarity, durability and practicality required for everyday commercial use.
The result is a complete front-of-house system that balances clean geometry with softer curves, giving familiar tableware a distinct but approachable character.
The flatware was designed for investment casting in stainless steel, allowing the twisted transition between the handle and working end to form as a single continuous piece. After casting, each utensil would be grinded, polished to create a bright, reflective finish, with selected areas of the handle micro-bead blasted to introduce a contrasting satin texture.
